How is that "sad" news? You picked a time window where there wasn't
a recession.
Dividend stocks are going to be lower risk/lower (but more stable) return. And yes, they are going to underperform growth stocks, especially in a 2-to-8 year window where the stock market had explosive growth.
I wouldn't call that good or bad. That's just how risk/reward in investing works.
